One of the aims of Options Disability Support recreation program is to help people to visit new places and experience new things and we’re off to a great start!
The first activity of the season, our bush walk and BBQ day saw a small group of us heading out into the sunshine and enjoying the walk, the view and some (but not all!) of the stairs along the cliff tops in Wyrrabalong National Park. A hearty (and healthy) BBQ afterwards made all the effort worthwhile.
Our horse riding for the non-rider day at Glenworth Valley saw everyone in the group (even those a little nervous of our new furry friend) mount up for a turn around the paddock. Fears overcome in a safe, supportive environment and another great day outdoors.
Not all the fun happens in the daytime though with the Friday and Saturday night live music nights being very popular and proving what we knew, that there’s no wall flowers among the Option’s crew. Our group typically front and centre on the dance floor.
It’s not always a short activity either with a group heading to Canberra for four days to see the sights along with a trip to experience the snow. Snowballs started flying as even the first timers quickly got the hang of things and learnt the rules (that there aren’t any) and found you couldn’t turn your back on anyone! Add in tobogganing, visits to the National Museum, Art Gallery, War Memorial and Questacon (if you’ve never visited, put it on your to do list, imagine a museum filled with all sorts of amazing technology and exhibits you can play with!) and it’ no wonder everyone had a snooze on the drive home!
